Some journeys begin with an idea. Others grow by continuously adapting to change.

DOKU’s journey is both.

The story began in Bali, at a time when Indonesia’s digital payments landscape looked very different from what we know today.

In the early 2000s, Bali was working to recover from the bombing that had shaken the island. Tourism was gradually picking up again, and with it came a seemingly simple question: how could travelers transact more easily while helping local businesses accept payments from international customers?

That need sparked an idea. At the time, digital payments were not yet part of everyday life. QRIS did not yet exist as a simple way to pay by scanning from a mobile phone, digital wallets were still far from commonplace, and online transactions were still relatively new to many people.

Yet from the beginning, the idea carried a broader purpose: uniting businesses across nusantara through a single payment platform. At a time when Indonesia’s digital payments industry was still in its early stages, this vision became the driving force behind DOKU’s early steps as one of the pioneers helping shape Indonesia’s digital payments ecosystem.

Nearly Two Decades On, How Far Has DOKU Come?

Every long journey leaves a trail behind. DOKU’s journey is no different. Year after year, changes in the payments industry, evolving business needs, and technological developments have helped shape DOKU’s direction.

Let’s look back at several key milestones that have taken DOKU from its early beginnings to becoming part of a global ecosystem.

  • 2007 — The First Step in DOKU’s Journey

Before it became known as DOKU, there was another name at the beginning of this journey: NSIApay.

In 2007, when digital payments in Indonesia were still in their early stages, NSIApay emerged with a simple yet relevant idea for the Indonesian market: how to build a payment foundation that could help transactions move consistently and reliably across the country’s highly diverse market.

Indonesia is not a single market with a single set of habits. This archipelago is made up of diverse regions, business characteristics, needs, and ways of transacting. Amid this diversity, there was a need for connections that could make transactions easier between businesses and customers, and between one need and another.

That is why, from the beginning, this journey was not simply about building payment technology. At its foundation was a belief: connection creates progress.

A connection can bring businesses and customers together. It can enable transactions to move from one party to another. And when that connection works well, it can create room for more people and businesses to continue growing.

This is where NSIApay’s journey began. A foundation was built and gradually evolved alongside Indonesia’s needs, until several years later, the name DOKU emerged with an increasingly broader vision.

  • 2010 — A New Name, A New Direction

Three years after the journey began, the name NSIApay changed.

In 2010, the company introduced a new identity: DOKU.

The new name marked an evolving direction. As digital businesses and technology began to grow, DOKU saw an opportunity to create easier ways for businesses to connect with customers through payments.

This was where DOKU introduced the idea of “A Better Way to Pay.”

It was not only about making transactions work, but also about making payments a simpler and more connected part of the business journey. DOKU began looking beyond individual transactions: businesses looking to grow, customers seeking greater convenience, and an ecosystem that needed ways to connect the two.

This vision was later captured in an increasingly clear direction: uniting Nusantara businesses through a single payment platform.

DOKU sought to connect businesses across the archipelago with more ways to accept payments, while building connections that could help them keep moving forward as the landscape changed.

The DOKU name continued to grow alongside this vision. Building on the experience developed as NSIApay, DOKU entered a new phase with a broader perspective, beginning its journey toward a better way to pay.

  • 2018 — Think Beyond Payments

Over time, the way businesses use payments has changed.

Payments no longer stand on their own. Behind every transaction is a business building relationships with customers, looking for ways to grow, and creating experiences that can be made easier.

DOKU began to look at its role from a broader perspective.

After years of carrying the spirit of “A Better Way to Pay,” DOKU introduced a new direction in 2018: “Think Beyond Payments.”

This shift reflected how DOKU viewed payments as part of a larger business journey. It was no longer simply about completing a transaction, but about how technology and connections could help businesses keep moving, growing, and responding to changing needs.

As DOKU’s journey grew longer, so did everything built along the way: experiences developed alongside businesses, an understanding of the Indonesian market, relationships with customers and partners, and trust built year after year.

  • 2022 — From Indonesia to the Regional Market

As DOKU’s journey grew longer, so did the horizons it saw ahead. In the same year that Chris Yeo began serving as CEO of DOKU, the company entered a new phase in its journey, beginning to explore opportunities beyond the Indonesian market.

After years of growing in Indonesia and gaining a deep understanding of the diverse needs of local businesses, DOKU began bringing that experience to a broader market. One of the first steps in this direction was its expansion into the regional market.

In 2022, DOKU acquired senangPay, a Malaysia-based payment solutions provider. The move marked part of DOKU’s efforts to expand its regional reach and serve more businesses, particularly small and medium-sized businesses.

For DOKU, entering a new market was not simply about expanding its geographical footprint. Each market has its own business landscape, customer behaviors, and unique needs. Understanding these differences became a new part of DOKU’s journey in building meaningful connections.

From Indonesia, DOKU began reaching into the regional market. And as the journey continued to expand, so did the opportunity to bring the experience it had built in Indonesia while learning from new businesses and markets beyond its home country.

  • 2026 — DOKU by Antom: A New Chapter, Now More Widely Connected

DOKU’s journey continues to unfold.

From an idea that began as NSIApay, evolving into DOKU, growing alongside businesses in Indonesia, and eventually stepping into regional markets through senangPay, each chapter has brought new experiences while broadening the way DOKU sees the connection between businesses, technology, and payments.

Now, the journey is entering a new chapter.

In 2026, DOKU became part of Antom, the payment and merchant digitalization services business of Ant International, and now operates as DOKU by Antom.

Built on trust.

The trust built over the years provides a foundation for moving further. DOKU brings with it everything that has grown throughout this journey: its strong roots in Indonesia, the people who have been part of it, the experience accumulated along the way, and the relationships and trust built with businesses and customers.

This time, however, there is more room to move forward.

Now, we go further, together.

Together with Antom, DOKU is connected to a broader global ecosystem and greater opportunities. What has been built in Indonesia can now meet the experience, technology, and networks of markets around the world.

DOKU × 2C2P × Antom: Connected to Grow Together

Becoming part of the Antom ecosystem opens new possibilities for this journey.

The broader the connections, the greater the opportunities.

As Antom strengthens its strategic investment, the relationship between DOKU, 2C2P, and Antom is also becoming closer. The three are working with increasingly aligned go-to-market strategies, creating more opportunities for DOKU to expand its connections and capabilities.

For DOKU, this means more markets to learn from, more businesses to connect, and more needs to address.

The ability to build solutions is expanding as well.

With broader distribution channels, sharper industry focus, and continued developments in AI-powered technology, DOKU has greater capabilities to build solutions that respond to evolving business needs.

Technology, however, is not the only thing evolving. Through these connections, Indonesian businesses looking to enter international markets have more opportunities to connect with the global payments ecosystem. At the same time, international businesses can build stronger connections when entering the Indonesian market.

Stepping Into the Next Chapter

As DOKU enters this phase, the company continues its journey under the leadership of Himelda Renuat as Chief Executive Officer of DOKU and Head of Antom Indonesia. Himelda succeeds Chris Yeo, who now serves as Head of Antom Philippines, following his tenure as DOKU’s CEO since 2022.

This leadership transition is part of DOKU’s effort to strengthen its regional connections, while staying true to a commitment that has been part of the company’s journey from the beginning: supporting the growth of Indonesian businesses through every transaction.

From mid-sized businesses processing their first online payments to established companies expanding into international markets, DOKU aims to remain a trusted partner throughout their journey.

Looking toward 2027, this focus will be reflected in closer relationships with the merchants DOKU serves, broader reach across industries and payment channels, and greater support for Indonesian businesses looking to transact across borders.

As its network expands, so does the need to ensure that every part of the payment experience remains reliable.

That is why service excellence continues to be an important part of DOKU’s path forward. Product reliability, increasingly seamless integration for developers, and dedicated 24/7 merchant support are among the areas DOKU continues to develop as it grows alongside Antom and 2C2P.

Ultimately, this next chapter is not about leaving behind what DOKU has built.

It is about expanding what can be built on that foundation.

With the experience and trust DOKU has built in Indonesia, combined with Antom’s global network and 2C2P’s regional capabilities, DOKU now has greater room to help businesses go further. From helping businesses transact to helping them grow beyond borders.

Becoming DOKU by Antom does not mean starting the journey from scratch. Instead, it is about taking a journey that has come this far into its next chapter.

From Indonesia, shaped by the experiences that have defined DOKU, to a world of greater possibilities to build together. This step continues DOKU’s journey while opening the way toward the future.
